Class 3: Ensuring Long-Term Success

Our At Home Restoration Series is a 3-part series to give urban and suburban residents the skills they need to successfully restore their yard, neighborhood forest, or nearby park space. This series targets small-scale restoration efforts, generally 5 acres or less, but the skills learned can be applied to larger projects. Program participants will learn why invasive plants are a problem, how to remove them from their project location, and how to develop a plan that will lead to long-term success. Each class will last approximately 1 hour with time for questions at the end. It is highly recommended to take the whole series as each class will build on knowledge learned from the previous class.

Description: It can be challenging to get rid of some invasive plants. Many of them require regular follow-up to be completely eradicated. Once eradicated, continual monitoring is required to be sure they do not come back or a new infestation does not take its place. This class will outline the long-term maintenance required for a restoration project to be successful. You will learn how to develop a long-term maintenance plan and how to adapt your plan to current site conditions. We will also share some valuable resources and tools that will help you further your own knowledge around invasive plants and how best to deal with them.

Presenter: Kevin Ptacek – Project Manager for Davey Resource Group, ISA Certified Arborist, & SW Ohio President for the Society of Ecological Restoration
